"There are men, in all ages, who mean to exercise power usefully; but who mean to exercise it. They mean to govern well; but they mean to govern. They promise to be kind masters; but they mean to be masters." Daniel Webster

Upside Down Flags

They are a well-known signal of distress. Back during the Clinton administration, right-wingers such as Alan Keyes and some gun rights types were calling on people to fly their flags upside down to protest the president's policies.

Now, some people seem to be doing it again. But watch how they react when somebody does it to, say, protest crackdowns on illegal immigration. Then it is something unholy. Me? I'm not offended when either side does it. I just think it's silly.
